It seems that while John McDonogh’s leaders were busy preparing for their close-ups on “Blackboard Wars” over the past several months, no one was minding the till.

Jessica Williams of The Lens posted a story on Wednesday about a looming budget shortfall at John McDonogh Senior High School that could threaten its ability to make payroll at the end of this month. Although John Mac’s operator, Future Is Now Schools, had originally built a $6.3 million budget around an estimated enrollment of 480, only 389 students had enrolled as of the October 1st MFP count. Therefore, Future Is Now Schools had known for six months that they potentially faced a shortage and didn’t take the necessary steps to prevent it.
